Moog Opus 3 Got this one in from a customer in Oa

Moog Opus 3

Got this one in from a customer in Oakland. Had not seen one myself in about 20 years. Got it all fixed up and back home for many more years of service.

Customer reported that the unit stopped powering on.
-No audio output
besides audible click from all audio sources
-Identified primary issue as failing 74LS221 monostable multivibrator
U15. Replaced
-Connector S26 failing. Replaced with new Dupont connector.
-Main contour generator not working. Multiple failures in trigger signal path
preventing trigger reaching schmitt trigger and VCF signal path inputs. Q1 2N3904 on Board 1 (keyer board) failed, preventing pulling the trigger pulse line low (Q1 replaced).
-U2 inverter failed preventing main contour attack/decay from working.
-Replaced U2/U5 (CD4007), U3 (CD40106), U4/U11 (CD4053)
-Front wood crossbar was no longer glued in place. Removed old glue and reglued.

Was mostly functional, just needed a deep cleaning, switches and buttons, keybed, etc. and of course put in the Tauntek firmware/EPROM board.

Just finished up this ARP Solus. Sliders were in

Just finished up this ARP Solus. Sliders were in typical bad shape, stiff and dirty but just one was broken. Got them cleaned up and working smoothly. Looking good and sounding great again and ready to head back home!

Been away from IG awhile- but have been keeping busy with lots of repair projects! Getting back to posting a few that have come through recently.
Here’s an SH-101 that came in December, replaced the the failing power button, calibrated and cleaned the keybed. East peasy, but fun to play once was back in business!

Roland Bass Guitar Pre-Amp SIP-301 read to go home. Mostly was just really noisy due to some grounding issues and dirty switches & pots. All cleaned up and working as expected 👍

Been slow to get some follow up posts up lately… Got this Juno 60 fixed up, bad diode in the patch memory battery circuit was draining batteries. Cleaned up some tough adhesive residue on the front panel. Back home with its happy (original) owner.

Roland Juno 60 in today for repair. Seems to be eating batteries 😵‍💫 and also needs a good clean up 👍

Crumar Performer (1979) repair complete. This one

Crumar Performer (1979) repair complete. This one had a whole mess of issues, blown PSU cap, faulty brass out shorting Jack, dead chorus and a broken slider. All fixed up and on its way back home!

I wasn’t so sure about the sound of this guy once it arrived, but once it was fully working, I came to really love its warm and lively strings sound!

Moog Source all finished up and on it’s way back

Moog Source all finished up and on it’s way back home.

DAC was bad, causing it to only make a raygun type sound which could be triggered from making contact with the comp pin.

Rebuilt the PSU, calibrated and sounding great once more.

Made some progress on getting this Oberheim Matrix

Made some progress on getting this Oberheim Matrix 12 back to looking its regal self. I had absolutely no luck getting some mystery 40-year old tape off of the panel above the keybed. No solvent, heat or scraping tool would work and unfortunately had to resort to (careful) sanding and painting.

After the front panel lip was repainted, I renewed the top panel which had become dull to help make it pop.

In the end, I’m happy how it turned out.
